I was laying on the couch trying to get some rest the B-Man (Brian), walks
in asks me to come outside and help unload some audio equipment from the
truck and at that point i met Jody J. Fadley. B-Man introduces Jody to
Walt, my brother. Walt takes a deciding interest about Jody being a music
guy and begins to show him what he can do on the PC, B-Man says, yeah dude,
He knows a lot about the computer. Walt had just loaded a music producing
software package and was messing around making different 'MIXES' of digital
samples. Jody asked, "Can you make that thing play drums"? Walt replies,
"Sure.. I can make it play anything just about, polyphonic too".
Jody plays some music for us on his guitar and sings some great songs.
He talks about how he is trying to get a band together that will stay with
him and record his songs so he could get them on CD and out to the unsuspecting
world!
Jody was on the phone and talking with the bass player for the now known
STANDING EIGHT, we need to get together soon and practice and see if we
can get these songs tight! He agrees and they set a date, it was May if
I recall correctly, and they had planed on a Saturday afternoon around
3:00 to try and get a practice in. They were late, we thought that they
might not make it as the weather was starting to look bad, not good for
transporting audio equipment around. They finally made it there around
4:00 PM and they set-up with a few problems of power. We were outside of
Brian Aklands residence, in the now known, OUTBACK, it's a lean-to with
tin walls and roof about 21 feet long by 12' deep, just enough room for
the practice. They jammed five or six songs and sounded very good for guys
that had not played together for a while. Jody knew these guys for a long
time but never were they all in the same band. After the practice everything
seemed cool and going as planned, and se we thought. They never played
together again. They had cut ties and never even told Jody!
So back to finding a group of guys to stick with Jody again. Three days
later and the phone rings, low and behold it was Steve Christopher, one
of Jody's very good friends who coincidentally happen to be one of the
best drummers in Okeechobee, Florida. Steve said, "Let's play some rock
n roll man!". Jody answers with, "Let's do it"!
Come to find out Rodney Harper was also conversing with Steve and wanted
to be a part of it all. Rodney had already been established as a good guitar
and bass player. Things were looking up for these three guys. They planned
a meeting at a local sports bar to talk things over a drink. They talked
over what kinds of music they were going to play with each other. They
all seemed to have much the same ideas for what they expected out of this
venture.
They had their first practice like they had been together always and was
just a little out of practice. It was very solid sounding to me, Walter
Hargrave. I had asked the guys if I could run sound or something. We made
a tape and was surprised to hear how good the songs came out.. This drove
JSR to practice harder and that is what they did.. They were getting a
much tighter sound and was impressing the crap out of friends all around
them. They had three or four more practices and Jody says, "We need a venue
to play at"! Then goes on to say, "Let's make
a venue of our own, let's call it '12 Hours Of Rock' ". Later, two
well known figures in the local musical community named the concert "SUMMER
JAM" and it went on to be a great show but that's another
story. They had two more practices before the Summer Jam and played
the show and everyone came up to tell them they had some great originals!
The work we all done with the Summer Jam gave us a good idea of some of
the business that surrounded the music industry and we decided on looking
into getting a CD created. But how we thought, It costs a great deal of
money to get the equipment to do it ourselves. Out of reach we thought...
I guess we will have to save money and have a studio to do it. Soon after
thinking this we found out that a local businessman had a Roland VX-880EX
which is a 8 Track Digital Workstation. He graciously allowed use of his,
'Home Studio' and equipment. It took us about two and a half weeks of work
to get 5 songs done and then we mixed them down onto the computer as wav
files and converted them to mp3 format. I uploaded these all to ClubKnowldge.com
and made a page for fans to listen to the songs. Was ok but not doing very
well getting them anywhere.
Later I stumbled across MP3.COM and after reading and signing and filling
out a bunch of forms. I knew that this was the best way for JSR to get
started! MP3.COM the BOMB!
