VR: Where do you want to be a year from now personally?
soulbelly: I want to be on the move. Ideally for me that means being on tour with my band. But I would accept an indefinite cross country jaunt visiting micro breweries and used bookstores, too.
VR: Will mp3.com really provide an avenue for people to make it?
soulbelly: It can't hurt, but what we've been learning and enthusiastically responding to as a band is the fact that nothing will help you make it more than good old fashioned hard work. Band promotion is like war; a necessary evil. (but that's just me)
VR: If you could talk to anyone in the music business, who would it be?
soulbelly: I'd like to talk with Chuck D., about his upbringing.
VR: Do you do any recording on your own?
soulbelly: Yes. Most of my personal recording is done on either my Tascam 4-track or my Sony hand held micro cassette recorder. Some songs would never have existed were it not for that little tape recorder.
VR: What have you enjoyed the most about doing what you do?
soulbelly: I love recording and the creative processes of writing songs, but my favorite experiences have to be those moments, playing music all together, when everything just clicks. Its magical. There's nothing quite like it.
VR: Are there any established artists with whom you would like to collaborate?
soulbelly: I'd ike to play guitar on a portishead track. That'd be fun.
VR: Where would you want to be musically say a year from now?
soulbelly: I just want to keep growing and stretching; to stay on the path I'm on now, but to be doing MORE of the same. More writing, recording, and live shows.
VR: What would you do if you lost your musical abilities and are you a fullfilled enough person to accept that if it happened?
soulbelly: Half, if not more, of my love and appreciation for music is in listening. It would be tough, obviously, but I could always take up yoga.
VR: What is your favorite song on the radio?
soulbelly: "Underdog", by Turin Brakes.
VR: How do you write your songs (how do you think of them)?
soulbelly: I consult the muses, naturallly.
