Alright, I finally have money to buy my speaker amp. I was thinking go for the MRV-F340 again, but I'm not sure if I can get a "better bang for the buck." Heres the list: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alpine MRV-F340: Peak : 100W x 4 RMS : 55 x 4 @ 4 ohms S/N : 100dBA Bass Engine® ===================================== Hifonics ZX6400: Couldn't find peak/max RMS : 85 x 4 @ 4 ohms S/N: 170 dBA ===================================== Swiss Audio SMR3004: Couldn't find peak/max RMS: 75 x 4 @ 4 ohms S/N: 100dBA ===================================== Eclipse PA5422: Max power: 800W RMS: 85 x 4 @ 4 ohms S/N: 105dBA ===================================== Visonik V4218: Max power: 1000W RMS: 100 x 4 @ 4 ohms S/N: 90dBA ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments & input needed... thanks (again) guys. Replies (17) swez on 07/12/2004 09:17:17 The amp choice will be dictated by the power ratings of your weakest speakers. If your interior speakers are say 50-60 watts RMS, an 85 watt x 4 will be fine. A few extra watts from a clean signal source (bigger amp) is much better than a lot of clipped signal voltage from a amp that is too small. FYI: The difference in SPL that you hear between the 55/85/100 watt version is minimal. (~ +1.5 to +3dB more SPL per speaker) But the power consumption of these larger amps will be considerable. All brands noted will be adequate for your application. The only amp I am not familiar with, is the Swiss Audio line. I have read some about them. But don't know much more than what I have read... which seems on par with other quality amps mentioned. Swez aposynthesi on 07/12/2004 10:30:11 I have Alpine Type-R's... so the RMS is 50 x 4 and the peak is 200 per channel. I suppose that since the alpine's peak is only 100 x 4, that it's out of the question now. One down, four to go, maybe more? swez on 07/12/2004 18:31:41 One of those 85 x 4's will do just fine. The 100 x 4 is also useful if, you can control yourself on the volume knob... but the power consumption on your electricals may come in to play with a 100 x 4 amp. Swez PS Master Apos... do you have a hard time making firm choices and commitments? hehe aposynthesi on 07/12/2004 19:11:57 Wouldn't the Hifonics work most efficiently since it's S/N ratio is 170dBA. And yes I do have a problem with making commitments, only with spending money though. aposynthesi on 07/12/2004 19:45:10 I just got an email response from Swiss Audio - they said they are a SQ based company which can do SPL too... I don't know if Eclipse / Hifonics are. swez on 07/12/2004 20:15:15 HiFonics and Eclipse products are also SQL products in general terms. If you care to buy American made... go HiFonics which is based in Chicago, IL. Nothing wrong with Eclipse... but they are Japan bases and service technical data are often limited and hard to come by. Partly a language barrier issue, but mostly that Japanese based MFG's believe they make the best and who should question that... for the most part, they do! Look at total current demand on both full range and sub amps you choose. A few extra watts of power on the front end, may wind up really gouging your wallet on the back end of the process... electrical upgrades are not cheap. Swez Bigeazy4387 on 07/13/2004 01:26:23 i have heard the hifonics amp on a set of diamond components and it has exceptional sound quality not that my 2cents matter much just thought i would throw it in aposynthesi on 07/13/2004 01:35:45 Man, I still can't decide... I'm on a rampage looking for 50-85w x 4 @ 4 ohm amps under $300 including shipping. The Swiss Audio SMR3004 ($150) is 75 x 4 @ 4o, while the SMR6004 ($230) is 150 x 4 @ 4o... which may be too much power for me, but it sounds like a deal. =============================== The-new-list-of-amps-because-I-cant-decide-without-contemplating-for-a-few-weeks: (best title ever) Nakamichi PA-1004 ($240) : 50 x 4 - 98 s/n Memphis Audio MC2004 ($220) : 50 x 4 - 92 s/n Memphis Audio MC3004 ($270) : 75 x 4 - 92 s/n Eclipse PA-5422 ($240) : 85 x 4 (800w max) Hifonics ZX6400 ($220) : 85 x 4 - 170 s/n Orion 4004 ($180) : 50 x 4 (800w max) Swiss Audio SMR3004 ($150) : 75 x 4 - 100 s/n Swiss Audio SMR6003 ($230) : 150 x 4 - 100 s/n Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:4 ($200) : 80 x 4 Ehhhh I guess that's it. swez on 07/13/2004 09:01:57 All amps noted are in the category of best choices for SQL performance. Not a bad choice in the bunch. Uhmmmm, the more you look... the more paralyzed you will become. This is often called "Paralysis by Analysis". It's a problem for many intellectual types.... I know... I get it too and need an outside coach/mentor to help break through that barrier and just do it! Have mentioned Swiss Audio several times and have researched them well already right? Why not break the conformity mold and try one and tell us all how you like it? The SMR 3004 sounds like a great price and plenty of power too. Go for it and then hit Swiss for your subs as well. Swez PS The level of support and technical detail is a factor in choosing our gear. What fun is is to have a great brand and no tech support? I have a nice little Swiss Army knife here in desk... great product, very well know and the Swiss are classic perfectionists. How's that for an endorsement? Oh.. they make excellent watches too. aposynthesi on 07/13/2004 09:59:48 I may go with them... I'm just waiting for another response from the rep. to find out where a local dealer is... then I can demo some of their stuff. I'm just a little worried about buying a brand I know nothing about, except that they have a very "talented" model working for them. GRIN If you haven't already - check out their show cars, they're creative. http://www.swissaudioinc.com/gallery/2003/images/DSC03054.jpg http://www.swissaudioinc.com/flash.html aposynthesi on 07/13/2004 12:13:38 Swiss Audio: The nearest dealer to you will be Angel's N Force Car Audio, They are in Dalton, the phone # 706-272-0654. pls check with theme for availability and prices. Swez ttocs on 07/15/2004 10:01:59 JL makes a great 5 channel amp that has enough pwr, and a descent sub output as well. It will be more expensive then the ones you have listed, but understand that it is a solid amp with great sound and pwr. I have done a few systems with them at the shop and if I was lookin at a mulite channel all in one amp, that would be my choice.......... Check out the 500/5 I think it is, you would not need any more........... aposynthesi on 07/15/2004 10:18:01 The rear speaker channel is 25 x 2 rms on that one FROWN cplkittle on 07/15/2004 10:32:29 see what you can find on ebay by Diamond. I have the D5 series 600/4, and it is the cleanest, coolest running amplifier that I have ever owned. MSRP is $729, but you will probably be able to find it for around 350-400. aposynthesi on 07/15/2004 17:46:14 I wish I could afford that... and have good enough speakers to go along with it. Moneys really tight right now because I'm just starting college FROWN Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
