I just purchased a HC900 3200 watt 2-channel visonik amp, and when i say big this thing is big. i was looking to purchase some kickers 15's to push it with and even with the crew backseat in my truck it wasnt enough so i purchased 2 alum12 Q audiobahns, rms at about 1000 a peice. Have the two right now but making a box that will acomidate for a third later if i choose to add. But my question is with the extremely large amp i know caps are out of the question. I listen to heavy bass songs and take JOYRIDES yes only joyrides up to 30 minutes so i know caps are out of the question. But is the two battery setup the best going with a yellow or red top battery along with my existing battery. I have a 90 amp alt. and i was going to do an upgrade to a 136 alt. and i was wondering with the extra battery would it be enough. I also seen a 900 cca battery at autozone. If i replace my existing battery and purchase 2 of these and drop them in with the bigger alt., or even go with the red or yellow top battery with my existing will it be enough. Oh, one more thing i was told by a man at a local Mickey Shorr that if i purchase the yellow or red top battery then i wouldn't need to do the bigger alt. setup. Is this true what is the best setup. If you have a better setup other then the ones i have stated then please inform me and thanx for reading. Replies (5) swez on 07/11/2004 22:54:39 Man... what do you have here??? This amp could be a real nightmare for you soon. What are the fuse values in this amp? It looks like 30x2 = 60A is recommended, but this amp may draw well over that at full power. More like 3x30 or 4x30A if I read this right... maybe more. Suggestion, since you have Alum 12 Q's, try running this amp in 2 channel mode, 3 ohms per channel (each sub VC's in parallel) and you get +800 RMS per sub. Don't bridge the amp w/ only 2 subs or they will be toast. With this configuration, the subs should survive and the amp will probably be fine as current draw goes, if you upgrade to a larger BAT and power wires. The larger the wires between ALT/BAT, BAT/GND and grounding strap doubled... you might get by. I see a major ALT upgrade and maybe a few BATs in your future if you add a 3rd sub and bridge MONO. Parallel dropping the 6 Ohm to 3 Ohm only pulling 1.5 Ohms from my Amp. But my fuse values are 40X5 = 200A and i know this amp is huge and its too much for the subs but it felt it was a good deal and i heard Visonik makes excellent amps, but my thing is i'm not sure if my light will dim or not if i dont add a second battery. Would you just suggest to run the Swez setup and if my lights dim then juss throw in an extra battery. P0werLifter on 07/12/2004 02:39:23 Well im sure Swez will be along shortly but im gonna add my two cents from what ive gone through with my truck. Currently im running 3000db Power Acoustik 2300watt RMS at 1 ohm amplifier pushing my 2 Power Acoustik Mofo subs (rated 1200 watts RMS each). If your going to be running that much power with that amplifier u got there...ur gonna need to beef up ur alternator BEFORE u consider dual batteries. Reasons? with only a 90amp alt right now and you say ur fuse values are 200amps...ur alternator WILL NOT be able to keep up with the demands of your stereo system ON TOP of ur standard electrical that comes with your truck. If u add a second battery before you upgrade the alternator that will only COMPOUND the problem. Easy way to find out how many amps u need for an alternator is add up the total Wattage of your system and divide that by 12 if your running a 12 volt system. Per say my Amp is 2300watts Rms...2300/12= 191amp draw at full power for my alternator to keep up with...thats not including the standard electrical from your car...to be safe add another 80amps on top of that. I recommend first off upgrading your alternator and upgrade your power..and grounds to a larger diameter wire. If u can do that as soon as possible untill then try to keep the system down at a reasonable volume or u might end up stuck somewhere at night with a dead battery and an bad alternator. Im sure Swez or the other guys will be here soon. Goodluck Jason PS. To run my system as it is..im going to be running dual alternators..right now im just sticking with my 200amp and keeping my volume not at fullpower till i get my dual alt setup...Alot of guys that are running that much power run one alt for your stock electricals then a seprate High Output alt for ur system. swez on 07/12/2004 08:45:57 Well said POwerLifter... I need not say anything more. You covered all the bases or should I say... BASSES? SMILE In the meantime... to protect your car electricals from major over load, consider using a a 80-100A fuse in your power line. If the amp tries to pull more current than that, the fuse will blow and keep your ALT from crashing.
