Do you think a wire larger than 18 gauge would make a difference with these speakers? http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2,contentid=5044,detail=2 Speaker RMS - 53 Subwoofer RMS - 188 Signal-to-noise ratio: 75 dB Thx bye. Replies (7) swez on 07/11/2004 08:31:11 The #18 should be fine for the mid/high speakers, but the sub might be a little better off with say #12-14 gage. Swez aposynthesi on 07/15/2004 02:04:41 The subwoofer is actually wired to a control box, which then goes to the sound card. Picture: http://sunandfun101.com/aposynthesi/log_spkrs.jpg The speaker wires are actually 20awg instead of 18... I just assumed before actually looking on the wire. I went out and bought 50 feet of 16awg for $20. I'm going to wire them through my ceiling GRIN swez on 07/15/2004 07:16:43 Nice little spot you have to work in. Like the old hutch next to your desk too. Through the ceiling or up to the ceiling wires? Swez aposynthesi on 07/15/2004 08:52:20 I WANT... to drill holes through the ceiling then run all of them to one drop point to hide the wires as much as possible... but I don't know if that's how I should be doing it. Then after that's all done, I'd like to share the speakers with my TV somehow... that'd be rad. aposynthesi on 07/15/2004 09:09:25 It would be awesome if I could build another enclosure for the subwoofer too... the one it's in right now just isn't working up to par with my likes. ttocs on 07/15/2004 09:58:42 I think that you are just dealing with small computer speakers. You can upgrade the wire, but chances are you will not notice a difference. Building a new enclosure could help but it seems like alot of work for a small amoung to gain. I was happy when I realized I had a small audiosource amp (model amp two) that was collecting dust in my closet, and my roomate had a set of satalite seperate speakers that he was gonna toss. They are small speakers as well but beat the heck out of the ones that came with the pc, now I can jam out fairly well while surfing. You can find PC speakers on ebay for some descent deals. If you want better sound I would recommend an upgrade. After you do all this work I bet you will still be wanting more. aposynthesi on 07/15/2004 10:22:43 Thanks, but I'm not looking for an upgrade... I was wondering if I should go higher so I wouldn't lose the signal when going a longer distance with a 20awg wire. The front speaker wires supplied with it are 6 feet, while the rears are ~15 feet. The sound of these speakers rated higher than a $300 Klipsch Pro-Media system. I got these for $120 1.5 years ago. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
